A North Dakota Treasure

Cheers to 100 years! This summer we will be celebrating the 2016 National Park Service Centennial at Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is comprised of three units: The North Unit, The South Unit, and The Elkhorn Ranch Unit. The park preserves an area of land that had a lasting impression on President Theodore Roosevelt. With Badlands stretching over 70,000 acres, it is no surprise that the New York Times named Theodore Roosevelt National Park one of the “52 Places To Go in 2016”.

While visiting Theodore Roosevelt National Park, you may encounter a tremendous amount of wildlife. Some of the wildlife you may see includes bison, bighorn sheep. prairie dogs, wild horses, and longhorn steers. Be sure to have your camera ready!

The 36 mile scenic loop located in the South Unit provides visitors with breathtaking views of the Badlands. The South Unit Visitor Center is open year-round at the entrance in Medora. It includes a museum, information center, and theater. The park is a beacon for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Activities in the park include camping, hiking, horseback riding, watercraft, and picnics. For a list of campgrounds, hiking trails, and other important information please see the park website for details!

During the summer months, Park Rangers put on a number of programs that help visitors experience all that the park has to offer. Park films, geology talks, junior ranger programs, full moon hikes, and stargazing are just to name a few!
